The tragic suicide of Atul Subash, a 34-year-old senior executive at a private firm in Bengaluru, has drawn attention to allegations of harassment and extortion involving his wife and her family.
What Happened?
Atul Subash was found dead at his Marathahalli residence in Bengaluru on the morning of December 9. According to police, the house was locked from the inside, and neighbours discovered his body after breaking the door lock in their presence.
Police reports revealed that Subash’s wife, along with her mother, brother, and uncle, had allegedly filed false cases against him and demanded ₹3 crore for their settlement. These allegations were brought to light by the deceased’s brother, Bikas Kumar, as per a statement quoted by news agency ANI.
Subash’s Death Note
A 24-page death note left by Subash accused his wife and her relatives of harassment. He reportedly emailed the note to his close contacts and shared it in a WhatsApp group associated with an NGO he was part of.
The note detailed his struggles and included a placard in his residence that read, “Justice is due.” Subash also left behind organised details, including the location of his vehicle keys and a list of completed and pending tasks.
Marital Dispute and Legal Cases
Initial investigations revealed that Subash was involved in a marital dispute with his wife, who herself is facing a case registered in Uttar Pradesh. The ongoing discord appears to have contributed to the mental distress leading to this tragic incident.
Police Investigation
The Hoysala Police control room received a report of the incident at 6 am on December 9. A case has been registered under Section 108 3(5) of the Bengaluru Police Act, and authorities have informed Subash’s family in Uttar Pradesh.
Further investigations are underway to uncover more details surrounding the case. This incident has raised concerns about harassment and false accusations within personal relationships, prompting calls for a thorough probe to ensure justice for the deceased.
