Astronaut Sunita Williams

NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, alongside Butch Willmore, shared their plans to vote in the upcoming US presidential elections this November. During a live press conference, 250 miles above Earth aboard the International Space Station, Williams described space as her ‘happy place’, saying she enjoys being there.

“This is my happy place. I love being up here in space… A test flight means we’ll probably discover a few things,”

she said, according to ANI.

Both astronauts confirmed they’ve requested a ballot to participate in the US elections, stressing the importance of citizens’ involvement in democracy.

“I sent my request for a ballot today, actually, and they should get it to us in a couple of weeks,” Wilmore stated, as per ANI.

A decision was made to bring the Starliner spacecraft back to Earth without its crew, landing safely on 6th September after spending over three months in space. Starliner landed at the White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico.

The astronauts will remain on the International Space Station as part of the Expedition 71/72 team, expected to return in February 2025. They will come back aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft with two other crew members, as part of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-9 mission.

On 5th June, the pair launched aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft for its first crewed mission, arriving at the space station on 6th June.
