Lawsuit: Google Hiring Practices Discriminated Against Whites, Asians”

A former YouTube employee has filed a discrimination suit against the world's largest video site, alleging that its policy was to hire zero white or Asian men for tech positions. Former Google employee James Damore had earlier claimed that he was sacked for writing an anti-diversity memo which caused controversy.

A Google spokeswoman reportedly said the company will vigorously defend itself against the lawsuit.

Further, she stated that the company is not hesitant in accepting that they look for a diverse pool of qualified candidates for open roles, and this helps them in hiring the best people, improve culture and build better products. Last week, Tim Chevalier, a former engineer, sued Google for wrongful termination over pro-diversity comments he made criticizing white privilege.

According to Wilberg, he was sacked previous year in November after he talked about the "illegal and discriminatory hiring practices" in the company. This week, Loretta Lee, a female software engineer who worked at Google for seven years before she was sacked in 2016, filed a lawsuit against the company alleging that she was routinely sexually harassed at Google, and that the company did not intervene. He claims he was let go after criticizing, and refusing to conform to, Google's hiring mandate to prioritize candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups, and de-prioritize white and Asian men.

According to Bloomberg, Arne Wilberg worked at Google for nine years as both an employee and contractor.

In April 2017, Google's "technology staffing management team" was told to cancel job interviews for software engineers with five or fewer years of experience who were not female, black or Latino, and to "purge entirely any applications by non-diverse employees from the hiring pipeline", according to the suit.

Did YouTube use diversity "quotas" and other similar practices to discriminate against White and Asian men?

Wilberg's lawsuit alleges that Google investigated hiring practices at YouTube and, sometime in mid-2017 told staff to stop tracking the hiring of minorities.

It is not the first time the company is criticized over its diversity practices. This system was later deleted by the company, Wilberg claims.
