DFS Requests Information on Deutsche, Other Banks' Dealings With Jared Kushner

DFS Requests Information on Deutsche, Other Banks' Dealings With Jared Kushner”

The real estate company owned by the family of White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, who also happens to be President Donald Trump's son-in-law, received more than $500 million in loans past year after executives from the lending companies met with Kushner at the White House.

Apollo defended its move in extending the loan to Kushner to the New York Times.

According to the report, Joshua Harris, the founder of Apollo Management - whose loan refinanced the mortgage on Kushner's Chicago skyscraper - who was advising Trump administration on infrastructure policy, also met with Jared Kushner past year.

The job never materialized, but in November, Apollo lent $184 million (U.S.) to Kushner's family real estate firm, Kushner Cos.

Citigroup said there was no conjunction between the decision to lend the money to the company and Kushner's role in the White House, since Kushner Companies had been a bank client since before the election.

The New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) made the requests to Deutsche Bank, Signature Bank and New York Community Bank for information on loans and other financial arrangements including lines of credit and loan guarantees a week ago, the person said. According to reports, Mueller has been looking into the financial dealings of a number of Trump family members, including Kushner.

The New York Times reported on Wednesday that the private equity firm Apollo Global Management and Citigroup Inc (C.N) extended loans totaling more than half a billion dollars to Kushner Cos previous year after their officials held separate meetings with Kushner. She described Kushner Cos as a "multibillion enterprise that is extremely financially strong".

Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for Kushner's lawyer, said Trump's son-in-law has "has done more than what is expected of him in this process".

Kushner loses access to President's Daily Brief as White House imposes stricter control over who has access to secrets.

According to the Washington Post, officials from at least four countries have "privately discussed ways they can manipulate Jared Kushner".

Much of the outcry about Harris' relationship with Kushner has to do with conflict of interest (read the article for greater detail about the problems with Kushner and Harris' relationship while Kushner is a prominent White House official). "Stories like these attempt to make insinuating connections that do not exist to disparage the financial institutions and companies involved", spokeswoman Christine Taylor said.

It said Joshua Harris, a founder of Apollo, was advising Trump administration officials on infrastructure policy and held several meetings with Kushner.

Jared Kushner's family real estate business secured two bog loans after a White House meeting with bank executives.

Trump could simply grant a waiver for Kushner to receive a high-level security clearance despite the unresolved background investigation.

Kushner's company, which he left to take his position in the White House previous year, is also being investigated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, along with federal prosecutors in NY, over its use of a visa program used to attract foreign investment, according to Bloomberg.
