Syrian Gov't Condemns US Aggression vs. Its Troops”

According to the coalition, around 500 pro-regime soldiers attacked the Syrian Democratic forces using artillery, mortar, and Russian-made tanks.

Mattis described the attack on the US-backed fighters, who were accompanied by United States special operations forces, as "perplexing" but he said the retaliatory US-led coalition strikes were defensive and limited in nature.

US-led coalition has killed more than 100 troops allied with the Syrian regime in an overnight operation carried out in retaliation for an attack on Kurdish forces.

"I believe that they are, right now, west of the river", he said, referring to the Euphrates River that has served as a so-called "deconfliction" border between Russian-backed Syrian government forces and USA -backed SDF fighting to rid the country of Islamic State fighters. Russian officials assured the Coalition they would not engage coalition forces in the vicinity. The minister's statement followed a US-led coalition attack that killed 100 Assad regime troops.

Russian Federation said the air strikes only wounded 25 fighters, but claimed the measure points to USA designs for the resource rich area. "[Pro-regime forces] were likely seeking to seize oilfields in Khusham that had been a major source of revenue for Daesh from 2014 to 2017".

Although Turkey has backed opposition troops since the Syrian conflict began in 2011, Ankara has moved closer to Assad's ally, Moscow. This came after militants in adjacent Idlib province downed a Russian fighter jet and killed the pilot on February 3, the AP said, citing unconfirmed Turkish media reports.

"We appreciate the Russian Federation's professionalism and regular communication [with its military units deployed to Syria] via the de-confliction line", he noted.

SDF and Syrian forces control areas on both side of the River Euphrates in Deir al-Zour province. The nationality of militias that attacked US -supported forces is equally unknown.

Veale confirmed that efforts were taken prior to the airstrikes to avoid any confrontation with Russian military forces in the area that are backing the Assad regime.

"As a result of the shelling, 25 Syrian militias were injured", the statement said. Uber exec says "no justification" for covering up breach MORE outlined a plan for US policy in Syria, stating that a full troop withdrawal would be disastrous for the country.
