President Trump tells Pentagon to plan a military parade

President Trump tells Pentagon to plan a military parade”

The Pentagon is reportedly planning how to carry out his wishes and figuring out how to overcome the financial and logistical challenges a grand parade would pose.

"The president wants to do something that highlights the service and sacrifice of the military and have a unifying moment for the country", an official quoted by the Washington Post said.

"This is being worked at the highest levels of the military", a Pentagon insider told The Washington Post.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has confirmed Mr Trump's intentions. He said last September in a conversation with Macron that he would like such a parade in Washington.

The US has not traditionally embraced showy displays of raw military power, such as North Korea's parading of ballistic missiles as a claim of worldwide prestige and influence. "I think a vibrant and lively democracy is the best image out to the world and I think that's what we represent to the world when we're at our best".

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the National Defense Authorization Act of 2018; a defense bill, which will pump almost US$634 billion in Pentagon operations in the 2018 fiscal year.

Trump reportedly got the idea for a military parade when he visited France for Bastille Day past year. Thousands of French military personnel and troops march together while rolling tanks, armoured vehicles to mark 100 years since the United States entered World War I.

The last military parade in Washington was almost 27 years ago following the end of the 1991 Gulf War.

Trump later called that parade "one of the greatest parades" he had ever seen.

Then we will rebuild Pennsylvania Avenue, because Pennsylvania Avenue is not built to transport seven-ton tanks. "I mean, we're going to be showing our military".

"Look, you have of course the North Korea parallels, the big military parades and the standing and applauding", said Burnett, "Is it fair to make that analogy?" There is a reason why United States presidents don't hold military parades because the country is not a military dictatorship.

Evidently Trump has become green with envy as he's seen Lil' Kim preside over a military parade once or twice every year. He added: "Trump acts more like dictator than president".
