More snow on the way

More snow on the way”

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening for portions of central Pennsylvania including all of Centre County. Again, the snow totals look to be very light (under 1 inch in most places). High: 44. Wind: N 5-10 miles per hour. They, however, hedge their bets, coming in at a 92 percent chance of precipitation as of their forecasts midday Monday.

We'll be watching closely the next front that moves in Friday night and Saturday. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

The heaviest activity will be along and south of a Harrison to West Plains to Eminence line where about a quarter inch of total moisture is now expected with up to a tenth of an inch of freezing rain.

Another system is expected to drop lesser amounts of snow on the area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and then more systems are expected to arrive Thursday and Saturday. Southeast wind 5 to 10 miles per hour.

Temperatures will warm above freezing by early afternoon with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 5 inches is expected overnight, tapering off around 2 a.m.

Thursday will be sunny with a high near 29 degrees, but don't get used to the sun.

- After the transition to rain occurs later Wednesday morning or early afternoon, rainfall amounts of one-half to one inch through Wednesday evening could potential cause minor, poor-drainage flooding. Normal snowfall is 9.6 inches for January with 5.3 inches recorded last month. Cloudy, with a high near 35.
