Man who attacked London Muslims imprisoned for over 40 years

Man who attacked London Muslims imprisoned for over 40 years”

The Finsbury Park terrorist, Darren Osborne, will spend at least 43 years behind bars after being jailed for life for his murderous attack on Muslims in London last June.

Justice Cheema-Grubb said Darren Osborne, 48, must serve two concurrent life terms with a minimum of 43 years in prison, minus the 224 days he's already served.

During Friday's sentencing hearing, Ali's daughter, Rosina Akhtar, said she could not describe the pain she and her relatives had suffered.

Osborne then drove around London looking for a target before heading to Finsbury Park, where worshippers were leaving a mosque and an Islamic centre after Ramadan evening prayers.

Osborne began researching far-right material online, police said.

Osborne, who had denied both charges, was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court this morning.

Another man in the group remembered the defendant - who was "constantly smiling" after he had been detained - saying: "I've done my job, you can kill me now", he said.

HERO imam Mohammed Mahmoud stopped the furious crowd from tearing killer Osborne apart after the horrifying van attack.

Just after midnight Osborne saw a crowd helping 51-year-old Makram Ali who had collapsed at the junction of Seven Sisters Road and Whadcoat Street.

"In short you allowed your mind to be poisoned by those who claimed to be leaders". His two sons are 13 and 14 years old, the court heard.

Mr Ali's family delivered an emotional statement outside court after the sentencing.

Sue Hemming, head of counter-terrorism for the Crown Prosecution Service, said prosecutors had been been "clear throughout that this was a terrorist attack".

She said Osborne had become "obsessed" with Muslims in the weeks leading up to the incident after watching the BBC drama Three Girls, which was based on the true stories of victims of the Rochdale grooming gangs.

Osborne had appeared before the courts on 33 occasions for 102 offences, she was told.

"I went to his funeral and he was a husband who was loved and a father who was loved - they've lost him because of the actions of this terrorist".

The jury had been told that Osborne wanted to kill as many Muslims possible when he carried out his premeditated attack in June 2017.

Makram Ali, a Bangladesh-born local man, died of multiple injuries after his legs were crushed under the van.
