Kendall Fuller Learned He Was Traded To Chiefs Over Twitter (TWEETS)”

The Washington Redskins, who just traded for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, pick one spot ahead of the Packers at No. 13.

The Washington Redskins and Kansas City Chiefs made some shocking headlines late Tuesday night when it was reported that quarterback Alex Smith would be traded to the former.

Kirk Cousins said he's not all about the money in free agency, which could put the Jets at a disadvantage. NFL trades can not be made official until the start of the new league year on March 14. He completed 67.5 percent of his passes - the most of his career in a full season - and threw for 4,042 yards and 26 touchdowns (both career highs) to only five interceptions.

East Rutherford, NJ, USA; Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins (8) warms up prior to the game against the the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. NY has nearly $80 million in cap space available.

Mahomes got his first start, and first career win, in the 2017 season finale in Denver.

The Browns were apparently one of six teams to discuss Smith with Kansas City. That option is guaranteed for injury and Bortles reportedly just underwent wrist surgery, meaning that the deal becomes guaranteed if he can not pass a physical by mid-March.

Which leads to the question: If Smith is worth $94 million, what in the heck will free-agent-to-be Kirk Cousins make?

The deal also clears the way for 2017 first-round draft pick Patrick Mahomes to become the Chiefs' new starting quarterback. ESPN insider Adam Schefter recently said that Garoppolo and his agent, Don Yee, may not want to get a deal done with the 49ers too quickly so they can see what Rogers ends up with in Green Bay. Between the draft pick and cap relief, Kansas City general manager Brett Veach will have the opportunity to add pieces to help Mahomes, or upgrade the defense (that's already started with the Fuller addition).

Foles labeled Smith as a player who "can turn a locker room around", calling him "one of the most athletic guys" in the NFL.

Washington, meanwhile, faced the prospect of using a franchise tag on Cousins for a third time - to the tune of more than $34 million fully guaranteed for one year - re-sign him to a long-term deal or let him hit the open market, where he could draw the biggest contract in National Football League history. Maybe they were one of the teams that took their shot and missed.

Cousins may be interested in coming to a Cleveland team that is young and that has been stuck in a 20- some year rebuild.

But the result remains: Barring a miracle get of Cousins, this trade doesn't make the situation of a winless team any better.

The front office in Washington have failed to be convinced that Cousins is the man to build the team around in the long term but he won't be short of offers in a QB needy league.
