'Dark day': Legendary actress Sridevi dies of cardiac arrest at 54”

Sridevi was in Dubai to attend the marriage function of actress Sonam Kapoor's cousin Mohit Marwah, along with husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi Kapoor. It happened roughly around 11.00-11.30.

Veteran Bollywood actor Sridevi breathed her last in Dubai today, as confirmed by her brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor. "I don't know more details yet", Sanjay told the Indian Express.

In a major jolt to Indian film industry, actress Sridevi passed away on Sunday.

She died at an age of 54. She acted with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and many more superstars but always held her own on screen.

Subsequently, Sridevi established herself as one of the leading actresses of Tamil and Telugu cinema, with roles such as 16 Vayathinile (1977), Sigappu Rojakkal (1978), Varumayin Niram Sivappu (1980), Meendum Kokila (1981), Premabhishekam (1981), Moondram Pirai (1982), Aakhari Poratam (1988), Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari (1990) and Kshana Kshanam (1991).

However, Sridevi formally married film producer Boney Kapoor in 1996 and the actress took a break from films.

In Hindi films, her infamous stint in the 1983 film Himmatwala got her into the spotlight.

In 2013, the government of India awarded her the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, in recognition of her lustrous career in cinema. Then in 2012, with English Vinglish she came back and showed her touch once again with a powerful performance.

Sridevi starred in two other films, Puli (Tamil) and Mom (Hindi) after her comeback.
