Black History Month Opening Ceremony Inspires, Challenges”

Black History Month is officially underway, and one organization created an adorable news parody starring mini reporters to kick off the celebration.

The Kings Foundation Dream All-Star Awards - the team's annual Black History Month honors - salute local community leaders, nominated by their colleagues and peers, for their achievements, accomplishments and efforts to make positive impacts throughout the Sacramento region.

And Woodson, who was born December 19, 1875, in nearby Buckingham County, Va., would die in this home, in his third-floor bedroom, in 1950, having traveled many roads and multiple continents along his path to changing how the world sees and values African-American history.

"I feel like Black History Month means celebrating our culture and our roots and embracing who we are as a black individual", Forte said.

"She (Degruy) will be doing a more in-depth conversation on the facts and the research of post traumatic slave syndrome and how it affects African American Communities", Brooks said.

A trip down memory lane that's the goal of Lawton High teacher Paula Bowen's black history class.

In 1916, Woodson established the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (initially known as the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History), and later launched Negro History Week in February 1926.

"If you listen attentively over the next several days, you will hear all kinds of stuff about black history and very little about Woodson", Morris said. As a result, her tweet in support of Black History Month was meaningless. If we can see further, it's because we stand on their shoulders.

On February 1, 1970, Kent State University educators took Woodson's Black History Week lead and began Black History Month.
