Armenian man killed in Turkish shelling of Afrin”

It was the latest in a string of rocket attacks on Reyhanli and the border town of Kilis since January 20, when Turkey's military launched a cross-border operation to drive out the Syrian Kurdish militia from Afrin.

"The whole world knows, or should know, that Turkey is not engaged in an invasion", he told reporters in Ankara, comparing operation "Olive Branch" with a seven-month cross-border Turkish offensive in 2016/2017 against both Kurdish militia and Islamic State jihadists.

They added that the crew was "slightly injured".

Eleven members of the Turkish Medical Association's (TTB) central council, including head Raşit Tükel, were detained on January 30 for their statement criticizing the Turkish military's "Operation Olive Branch", launched to remove the People's Protection Units (YPG) from the Syrian district of Afrin, Turkish Hurriyet Daily News reported on Tuesday.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hinted on Sunday that the campaign against Kurdish militia could be widened beyond Afrin to "wherever there are terrorists".

Since Turkey's decision to fight hand-in-hand with the FSA in northern Syria, in order to clear the region from Kurdish militants of PYD and the YPG, both considered as PKK branches by Ankara, the country has sent troops there.

Two rockets fired from the Syrian region of Afrin struck the Turkish border town of Reyhanli and killed one person, the state-run Anadolu agency said on Wednesday.

Yildirim's remarks came in response to comments by French President Emmanuel Macron who warned Turkey against invading the northern Syrian enclave of Afrin.

On Wednesday, the top American commander for the Middle East said the USA military is doing "everything we absolutely can" to avoid a confrontation with Turkey in Syria.

"We can't build security on the ground without respect for Syrian sovreignty against an enemy (the Kurds) that is no longer ISIS", Macron said.
