Arizona Cardinals receive three compensatory draft picks”

The league announced Friday that the Oakland Raiders will receive four compensatory draft picks for the upcoming 2018 NFL Draft.

The Patriots are set to pick 31st in the first round, and also own two picks in the second round, their own and San Francisco's. Receiving four picks was tied for the most in the National Football League along with 14 other teams.

The Buccaneers have been awarded an additional seventh-round pick through the compensatory system, which is based on net losses in the previous year's unrestricted free agency period.

This year the Steelers will be without one of the 32 picks. A total of 32 compensatory selections were awarded to 15 teams. The Giants had fallen somewhere between 33-37 using the formula. The Raiders join the Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers, and Dallas Cowboys with the most compensatory picks with four, while 11 other teams will also receive added picks.

Compensatory free agents are determined "by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors", and not every free agent lost or signed by a team is covered by this formula.

Players signed during free agency past year were tight end Jared Cook, wide receiver/return specialist Cordarrelle Patterson, quarterback EJ Manuel, tackle Marshall Newhouse and linebacker Jelani Jenkins.

Under NFL rules, the number of compensatory draft picks can not exceed the number of franchises.

Compensatory picks are slotted between the third and seventh rounds.

Depending on what they gave up to acquire Marcus Peters, the Rams may not have many picks in the 2018 draft.
