YouTube finally responds to the Logan Paul controversy”

The video was later taken down by Logan Paul, who posted two videos apologising for his actions.

"Many of you have been frustrated with our lack of communication recently", the tweet thread began. You're right to be.

"In light of recent events, we have made a decision to remove Logan Paul's channels from Google Preferred", a YouTube spokesperson said in a statement.

Paul, 22, was criticised by viewers last week after uploading a video featuring a dead body in Japan's suicide forest, Aokigahara.

He was subsequently criticised, with filmmaker and actor Anna Akana arguing: "That body was a person someone loved".

In YouTube's "open letter" on Twitter, they went on to say that they "expect more" from those who post videos and that Paul's channel was in violation of the site's community guidelines. YouTube promised in a statement that it was listening to feedback and expected more from creators who build their community on the platform.

The video amassed more than six million views and hundreds of thousands of likes in the few hours after it was uploaded - YouTube even put the video in its trending section - a move the streaming platform came under fire for.

Paul announced earlier that he was stepping away from posting videos following the outcry over his "suicide forest" video.

More than 400,000 people have signed a petition requesting Paul to be banned from YouTube.

Paul has apologised for the video, and has not published any further videos since the apology on January 2nd.

With this in mind, YouTube's tweets could be seen as merely a half-apology for its role in effectively facilitating the spread of disturbing and offensive content. YouTube prohibits violent or gory content posted in a shocking, sensational or disrespectful manner. A strike is issued when reviewers are notified of a violation of the Community Guidelines, per YouTube.

Representatives for Logan Paul didn't immediately respond to INSIDER's request for comment.

If you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts, please call the Canadian Suicide Prevention Service (CSPS), available 24/7, at 1-833-456-4566.
