Why has the 'Fire and Fury' book angered Trump so much?

Why has the 'Fire and Fury' book angered Trump so much?”

White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller attacked a new book about the inner workings of President Donald Trump's White House as "garbage" and a "grotesque work of fiction" in a tense interview Sunday.

In the book, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon makes a number of scathing critiques against Trump and his inner circle, including calling a meeting between Trump campaign officials with a Russian lawyer in Trump Tower during the presidential campaign "treasonous" and "unpatriotic". "My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda - as I have shown daily in my national radio broadcasts, on the pages of Breitbart News and in speeches and appearances from Tokyo and Hong Kong to Arizona and Alabama". "I support President Trump and the platform upon which he was elected".

Cotton described Trump as "active, engaged and effective", while touting what he views as the president's successful policies on immigration, healthcare, defense, and the economy. "That's the background to the perception and the understanding that will finally end ... this presidency".

Will the book affect Trump's presidency and U.S. foreign policy?

The president was furious with Bannon, and he and his team quickly issued a private ultimatum: Allies had to choose sides - they either support the president or they support Bannon.

Bannon's statement seemed aimed at trying to fix the rupture.

After the comments were publicized, Bannon's biggest financial backer, Rebekah Mercer, followed the President's lead in distancing herself from Bannon.

Breitbart News has publicly marched to war against Kushner, coining him the figurehead of the "globalist" wing of the White House.

But Bannon said Sunday his description was aimed at former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who also attended the meeting, and not Trump's son.

"He said he interviewed me for three hours in the White House".

"I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr has diverted attention from the president's historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency", Bannon said in the statement, first obtained by the news site Axios.

As soon as excerpts from Wolff's book leaked out in the media, many of Bannon's friends and colleagues urged him to release a statement defending himself.

Fire and Fury is reportedly based on more than 200 interviews and fly-on-the-wall access to the White House.

Vanity Fair's Emily Jane Fox wrote that the Trump-Kushners are relishing Bannon's rapid slide into pariah status as his funders desert him and the board at Breitbart.com struggles to decide whether he should be allowed to remain as the company's CEO.
