Raiders Giving Jon Gruden Contract Worth Around $100 Million Over 10 Years

Raiders Giving Jon Gruden Contract Worth Around $100 Million Over 10 Years”

ESPN reported the day before the Raiders' season finale that Mark Davis, the team's owner and the son of Al Davis, was prepared to make Gruden a lucrative offer.

Gruden will replace former Raiders coach Jack Del Rio, who was sacked Sunday after a disappointing six-win season.

This season Oakland missed the playoffs with a final record of 6-10, after ending a 14-year postseason drought a season ago finishing 12-4.

Sources say Gruden is at a point in his life - his youngest child will be a senior in high school next year - and his broadcasting career ("Monday Night Football" hasn't had the same cache and top games in recent years) where a return to the sideline was more real than ever. It is believed that he will bring in well regarded Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther to run his defense.

ESPN's Adam Schefter later confirmed the report. He coached Oakland from 1998 to 2001 and has been working as an ESPN analyst as of late. After leading the Raiders to 8-8 records his first two years, Gruden helped the team reach the AFC title game following the 2000 season and got Oakland back into the playoffs the following season.

Ian Rapoport with NFL.com reports that Gruden will be introduced at a Tuesday press conference.

Several assistant coaches have already been hired by the Raiders in anticipation of Gruden's hiring.

Also joining Gruden's staff will be Dallas' Rich Bisaccia as special teams coordinator.
