New Ford Ranger pickup anticipated at auto present

New Ford Ranger pickup anticipated at auto present”

The blue oval pulled the covers off its U.S. version ahead of the opening of the 2018 Detroit motor show, showcasing a number of minor styling changes that are expected to come through on local models later this year, including new LED headlights within a restyled front bumper, modified bonnet, different grille options across a variety of models and capitalised "Ranger" text stamped into the tailgate.

America loves trucks and it loves trucks with heritage even more, so there's a lot riding on the 2019 Ford Ranger. During this time, Ford executives said they could satisfy pickup truck demand - and make more money - by widening the price range and engine options of its larger F-150 pickup model line.

Rolling out of an assembly plant in Wayne, Mich., the new Ranger is based on an architecture Ford developed for sale around the world, but engineers say every piece of the US version's frame is new.

Ford isn't talking pricing for the 2019 Ranger yet, but we should know more when the Ranger saddles up in early 2019.

Ford isn't revealing output numbers yet, but the new ranger will have a 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine with a ten-speed transmission.

The OEM said the Ranger will come in entry-level XL, mid-level XLT and high-level Lariat trim series with available Chrome and Sport appearance and FX Off-Road packages, and in SuperCab or SuperCrew cab configurations. But its frame is reinforced with steel to meet USA safety standards and it has steel bumpers. In general, transmissions are more efficient with more gear ratios because that allows the engine to spend more operating time with its most efficient speed. For the moment, the most beastly iteration of the 2019 Ranger will be the FX4 Off-Road Package, with its beefier tires, bash and skid plates, and off-road-tuned shocks.

Ford states fuel-consumption concerns and America's distate for diesel following the Volkswagen emission scandal as reason for its smaller and exclusive engine offering. It includes four distinct drive modes – normal; grass, gravel and snow; mud and ruts; and sand. The Lariat will also be available with optional Pedestrian Detection and Adaptive Cruise Control. Ranger four-wheel-drive versions feature 2-high, 4-high and 4-low. The Ranger XLT and Lariat trims will come standard with lane departure warning and lane-keep assist.

The Ranger will include a host of new technology, such as a standard 4G-connected Wi-Fi hot spot, FordPass Connect and pre-collision assist technology as well as a number of other optional driver-assist features.

Big-truck king Ford Motor Co. has been missing out on soaring mid-size pickup sales.
