Georgia QB Jacob Eason likely transferring to Washington

Georgia QB Jacob Eason likely transferring to Washington”

Jacob Eason, the former Gatorade National Football Player of the Year, announced Friday he is leaving Georgia. After injuring his knee in the season opener this past season, true freshman Jake Fromm took over the Georgia offense, and led it all the way to the College Football Playoff. Fromm, who threw for 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions on the season, will enter the 2018 season as Georgia's starter. Browning would hold on to his job, obviously, in 2018 and then give way to Eason the next season and he would then have two years of eligibility. Eason has yet to make a transfer destination known at this time.

Eason, who just finished his sophomore season, is from Lake Stevens, Washington, which is roughly 30 miles from Washington's campus. Eason's development into a premier quarterback was stalled this season, though, when he was beaten out for the Bulldogs' starting spot under center after an injury by freshman Jake Fromm, another highly touted recruit. "I will miss suiting up in red and black, but Athens will always be a place I can call home", Eason wrote, singing it with his Twitter handle, Skinnyqb. He didn't; he stuck it out until the end, and the video below captures the attractive moment at the end of the National Championship Game where Eason waited for Fromm in the tunnel and put his arm around him.

The two coaches who recruited Eason - Mike Bobo and Mark Richt - are no longer at Georgia.

While no official decision is made, Georgia is looking crowded and Washington may need a quarterback for the 2019 season.

"I've understood my role as a backup quarterback to be ready at any given time and to prepare the team as best I can", Eason said in an interview before the Rose Bowl Game. "I think what they did was right - I mean, look where we are now".
