Facebook selfie showing murder weapon helps convict killer in Canada”

Cheyenne Rose Antoine, 21, pleaded guilty to killing Brittney Gargol in March 2015 after the 18-year-old was found strangled near a landfill in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Just hours before the incident took place, a selfie was posted on Facebook showing both Antoine and Gargol together.

Officers had noticed Antoine wearing the belt in the last picture her pal had shared online and it was eventually found near Brittney's body, making it a key piece of evidence. Haven't heard from you. "Hope you made it home safe" was an attempt to throw people off. Antoine says that she doesn't remember actually killing Gargol on that particular night but, nonetheless, she confessed. The now convicted killer said she hit Gargol and then strangled her with the belt.

"She knows the family would like an explanation, a reason, but unfortunately she can't provide that", said Lisa Watson, Antoine's lawyer.

"It's quite remarkable how the police developed this information", the crown prosecutor Robin Ritter told the court. She "has issues...and because of those issues she is risky", the CBC reported.

Antoine's charge was later changed to manslaughter and she accepted responsibility for her friend's death, but maintains that she does not remember killing her.

Gargol was discovered choked to death nearly a landfill in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with Antoine's belt close to her body. Northing I say or do will ever bring her back.

Antoine pled guilty to Gargol's murder Monday, and received a seven-year sentence for manslaughter. She also played the part of concerned friend, asking Facebook if anyone had seen Gargol. I'm really, really sorry.

"Most days we can't stop thinking about Brittney, what happened that night, what she must have felt, fighting for her life", her aunt, Jennifer Gargol, told CBC News. "It shouldn't have ever happened".
