Eight Earthquakes Strike Iran-Iraq Border, Injuring 4”

More than 530 people died in that natural disaster in Iran.

Baghdad/Ankara: An natural disaster jolted the Iran-Iraq border region on Thursday at around 10 a.m. (0700 GMT), causing some panic in Baghdad and central Iraq, according to residents and state-run media.

The temblors hit on Thursday morning, were felt far and wide and even rattled the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. Six had a preliminary magnitude of at least 5 and two registered at magnitude 4, according to reports. "If there was a stressed fault that's ready to move, they happen like that until the stresses are relieved, so it's not too unusual". According to the Azad News Agency, a crisis management team is being deployed to Kermanshah, although there are now no reports of any injuries.

The epicenter of the quake was 31 km west of Kerinshah at a depth of 10 km.

There was no immediate report on damages or casualties.

On November 13 a powerful magnitude 7.3 quake devastated the northern border region between Iran and Iraq, making it the deadliest quake of 2017.

Iran sits on major seismic fault lines and is prone to frequent earthquakes.
