Browns swipe Eliot Wolf from Packers front office

Browns swipe Eliot Wolf from Packers front office”

Wolf is the second Packers executive Dorsey has hired since he became the general manager of the Browns last month.

The biggest loser in the Green Bay Packers' general manager search might have been Eliot Wolf. However, there was a sense that he would depart from the organization after not getting the general manager position. Gutekunst had been director of player personnel.

Last week, the Packers let another high-ranking scout, Alonzo Highsmith, out of his contract to join the Cleveland Browns' scouting department. After stints as the assistant director of both player and pro personnel, he jumped to full-time gigs in both roles, ultimately being named director of football operations in 2016.

Wolf interviewed with the Browns on Tuesday and had been scheduled to fly to Oakland, where he had an offer from Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie, who previously worked together with Dorsey and Wolf in the Packers' personnel department.

"Eliot has been a fine executive in this league for some time now".

The Green Bay Packers have signed RB Joel Bouagnon. Wolf's background is mostly in pro scouting, and Highsmith was a college scout for 13 years before being promoted to senior personnel executive in 2012. A new coordinator would presumably have input on the rest of the offensive staff, and though nothing has been made official a person with knowledge of the situation told The Athletic, he expects at least two members of the Browns' 2017 coaching staff to eventually pursue other opportunities.

Gutekunst has been Green Bay's player personnel director for almost two years, though he has been with the Packers' player personnel department for almost two decades. He began writing reports on players at age 14. All three worked under Dorsey during his time with the Chiefs.
