White House plan to replace Tillerson with Central Intelligence Agency chief

White House plan to replace Tillerson with Central Intelligence Agency chief”

That's after reports that White House officials are discussing a plan to replace Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo in what would be a major shake-up of the president's national security team.

Russian Federation has often employed "malicious" tactics against the US and Europe to "drive them apart" and undermine their political and economic successes, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said.

The Washington Examiner, citing a former White House aide, reports that Tillerson's decision last week not to send a senior State Department delegation for Ivanka Trump's widely touted trip to the annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit in India was "the last straw" for Kushner and has led him to be a key voice calling for Tillerson to be fired.

Relations between President Trump and the senior member of his Cabinet - the former CEO of Exxon Mobil - have been strained nearly from the start.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Mr Tillerson was still secretary of state.

Tillerson's likely ouster loomed awkwardly over an Oval Office meeting Thursday between Trump and the visiting Bahraini crown prince. Nauert added that Tillerson "serves at the pleasure of the president". Tom Cotton would then be appointed to lead the Central Intelligence Agency.

Kelle Louaillier, president of Corporate Accountability International, said that while ousting Tillerson, former CEO of ExxonMobil, might otherwise be a positive step, having Pompeo in charge of the U.S. State Department would be nothing to celebrate.

Sen. Cotton, meanwhile, is a staunch conservative and ally to the president, best known for hawkishness on both foreign policy and immigration issues.

However, they said Pompeo would need to resist the planned budget cuts and find a way to grapple with Trump's tweets.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop hopes Rex Tillerson stays on as the U.S. secretary of state.

Tillerson has at times put distance between himself and Trump's positions. Trump has never been one to favor diplomacy either, despite his talk of making deals, and while it makes some sense that he would want a top diplomat who is similarly averse to talking, it's also clearly risky.
