Russian Federation condemns North Korean latest missile launch”

The missile was topped with a "super-large heavy warhead" and is capable of striking the U.S. mainland, according to reports from North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency.

At the Council meeting convened at the request of the US, Japan and South Korea, Under Secretary-General Jeffrey Feltman said the missile launched on Wednesday had travelled about 950 kilometres before falling into the sea in Japan's exclusive economic zone.

"We were encouraged by that approach". The Americans, he said, "should explain to us all what they're after".

Following the test, US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley called for other countries to sever all ties with Pyongyang, including cutting trade links and expelling North Korean workers.

"So part of [Russia's positioning] is to seem reasonable to South Korea and to ally with China against the US and I think they are largely seen sympathetically by other countries as well, who are quite concerned with the direction in which the U.S. We have the impression that it was all done specially to get Kim Jong Un to "fly off the handle" and 'take another reckless step, '" he said, according to Reuters. But Russia, which is masterfully edging the USA out of relevance in Syria, is now making more muscular statements on Trump's diplomatic shortcomings with North Korea, including his calls to further isolate the regime.

While in Rome on Friday, Lavrov said Haley was "playing with fire" with her recent remarks, which he described as a "bloodthirsty tirade".

Haley said during her speech at the United Nations headquarter that President Trump has called President Xi to stop all oil shipments to North Korea.

North Korea, in an announcement broadcast on state TV, said this week it had successfully tested a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile called Hwasong-15.

What the Chinese must do, and do soon, is remove their "puppet" in North Korea, says Frank Gaffney, a national security analyst who served in the Reagan administration and now heads the Center for Security Policy.

"We have repeatedly stated that the pressure of sanctions has been exhausted".

North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) claimed the Hwasong-15 was "tipped with super-large heavy warhead which is capable of striking the whole mainland of the US".
