Kaka Announces Retirement from Football on Instagram”

Former Brazil attacking midfielder Kaka has announced his retirement from football following a decorated career at both club and worldwide level.

"My career as a professional player is over".

"Very consciously I have come to the conclusion that it is time to end my career as a professional player".

The former Brazil worldwide has, along with Sao Paulo, been linked with a return to AC Milan, where he won the Champions League, Serie A and the Ballon d'Or during the peak of his career. Kaka was the best paid of the entire competition with a salary of $7.2 million.

Kaka, 35, has made a decision to hang up his boots after winding up his career at Orlando City.

Having lifted the World Cup with his country, he won the Champions League with Milan in 2007 and the Ballon d'Or, awarded to the world's best player, in the same year.

On Sunday he posted on Twitter that he is ready for next journey: "Father, it was much more than I could even imagine".

"I needed time to think and take a decision calmly", Kaka said. "Thank you! I'm now ready for the next journey", he posted on Twitter, alongside a picture of himself in a T-shirt labelled "I belong to Jesus". I spoke to some people very close to me, my parents, my brother, my girlfriend and my brother's wife, five people. He led AC Milan to domestic and European honours, as well as helping the Italian giants become the first European side to win the FIFA Club World Cup title in 2007.

He also added that he might continue taking part in the football world: "I will continue in football but in a different role".
