Giants' Collins Goes After 'Cancer' Apple During Radio Interview

Giants' Collins Goes After 'Cancer' Apple During Radio Interview”

Earlier in the week, safety Landon Collins told ESPN Radio that Apple is considered a locker-room "cancer", and later told ESPN's Josina Anderson that the cornerback had "checked out" on the team.

A rough season for Ohio State alum and Giants cornerback Eli Apple is mercifully over.

Heading into the predraft process in 2016, few doubted Apple's physical tools and raw talent, but there were concerns about his need for refinement, both as a player and in terms of maturity.

"There's one corner that has to establish and needs to grow, and we all know who that is", Collins said when asked for his appraisal of the Giants' secondary. "That would be the only person I would change out of our secondary group".

During Sunday's 23-0 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Apple appeared completely disengaged from the goings-on between the lines at times. Apple got into hot water with the Giants when he retweeted video of a touchdown against his own team by Cowboys running back and former Buckeyes teammate Rod Smith, also violating the NFL's social media policy. Besides, the other two guys, (Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie) and (Janoris Jenkins), I love those two guys. They play hard. They love what they do.

Apple denied that any such conversation occurred. But that first pick? Apple was inactive for the game, but league rules forbid tweeting from the sideline regardless of whether a player is active or not. His mom underwent brain surgery during the season. After a decent rookie season, he did not play a defensive snap in Week 16.

It's been a bad one all around for the Giants, and the Apple situation has been the most glaring example of just how bad it's been during one of the worst seasons Big Blue has ever had.
