Airline Pilots Saw North Korean Missile's Re-Entry, Breakup”

A Cathay Pacific flight crew saw the final moments of North Korea's ballistic missile launch last week, according to the airline.

North Korean missile tests in the past several months have led to tensions with the USA, as President Donald Trump has made multiple threats against the rogue nation and its leader Kim Jong-un, whom Trump has deemed "little rocket man". The missile soared to a height of 2,800 miles, ten times higher than the worldwide space station, and then came nearly straight down.

The crew of the Cathay Pacific Airways flight says they witnessed the rogue nation's latest weapon break apart and explode as it traveled through the sky early Wednesday morning on November 29.

The AP reported the missile was in the air for almost an hour and reached an altitude of 2,780 miles before plummeting into the Sea of Japan about 600 miles from its launch point.

"Though the flight was far from the event location, the crew advised Japan ATC (air traffic control), according to procedure", the spokeswoman said, adding that flight operations had remained normal and was not affected, the Morning Post stated.

North Korea fired what is believed to be the biggest and most powerful missile in its arsenal last Wednesday, the Hwasong-15, after a weeks-long lull in testing.

A Japanese daily reported Tuesday that Japan will overhaul its missile intercept system starting next year to cope with advancements in North Korea's weapons technology such as faster-descending missiles launched at steeper trajectories. Pyongyang boasted that the weapon was capable of hitting the US mainland. Mr. Trump did not give any specifics on plans to combat the North Korean threat however, the USA moved a squadron of the military's F-22 stealth fighters to South Korea to begin combat exercises following the ICBM launch. North Korean tests post a potential risk to planes as it rarely issues warnings of the launches or its missiles' intended flight path.

"Coupled with the rogue regime's need to master missile guidance and targeting, the re-entry failure underscores the challenges facing the country's weapons program, according to the official".

President Donald Trump has said that the United States would handle the North Korean situation, but did not specify details.
