NYPD Says 'Have An Actual Case' Against Harvey Weinstein After Rape Accusations”

Speaking at a news conference at Police Headquarters in Lower Manhattan on Friday afternoon, officials told The New York Times they were gathering evidence with an eye toward preparing a warrant to arrest Weinstein, whose representatives have said is undergoing therapy outside of New York.

The accuser, an actress who came forward 10 days ago, told NYPD investigators Weinstein raped her in Lower Manhattan on two different occasions that year, police sources said.

"We immediately contacted the district attorney in NY and we started working the case together. No doubt", he said, according to AP. "We're happy with where the case is right now. And we have to move forward gathering evidence first".

She told CBS that Weinstein offered to give her a ride back to her apartment after a party in October 2010 because they lived in the same neighborhood. She says she had been drinking and was in no state to have consensual sex.

Vance's office declined to bring criminal charges against Weinstein in 2015, after Weinstein admitted in a recorded conversation he groped model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez.

Investigations amid mounting allegations against Weinstein are taking place in Los Angeles and the United Kingdom. "The investigation is on-going", the NYPD said in a statement Thursday night.

Boyce said police in NY are working on the Weinstein case along with prosecutors, collecting evidence and putting out subpoenas as they proceed.

PEOPLE magazine reports there are 65 women who have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct. We are actively investigating them.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they speak publicly, which de la Huerta and Guiterrez have done.

The movie mogul has "unequivocally denied" allegations of non-consensual sex.
