Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters from South Africa is the crowned victor of the recently concluded Miss Universe 2017 beauty pageant. Falling just short in the finale, the first and second runner-ups were Miss Colombia, Laura González, and Miss Jamaica, Davina Bennett*, respectively.

They were asked: What quality in yourself that you are most proud of and how do you apply that quality to your time as Miss Universe? Demi has taken home a very handsome salary, a luxury apartment in NY and many more goodies.

The 22-year-old from the Western Cape is only the second South African to win the title, following Margaret Gardiner's win in 1978.

Debut contestants at the 2017 pageant all hail from the Asia-Pacific region, with Nepal also making its introduction with the other two Southeast Asian nations in the annual competition.

Wurtzbach was one of the judges for the telecast.
