Maribor humiliated by Liverpool in Champions League

The home side defended poorly in a first half where they shipped four goals, Liverpool essentially on easy street from the moment Roberto Firmino put them ahead on four minutes.

Having failed to convert their dominance into victory in Moscow last time out, the Reds have the chance to claim only their second Champions League away win in nearly eight years - their last came against Debrecen in November 2009.

Maribor have had a tremendous start to the Slovenian League.

Maribor and Liverpool both opened their Champions League campaign with draws. They haven't reached the knockout stages of the competition since 2008/09.

The Champions League match between Maribor and Liverpool will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Plus. They have never scored a couple of times in those 14 games.

So, who else starts at Ljudski vrt tonight? Sporting Lisbon only picked up a point away in Slovenia's second biggest city, while Schalke clinched a narrow 1-0 win.

At the back, the Liverpool manager picks Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as the central pair, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alberto Moreno slot in as full-backs. Sadio Mane remains a long-term absentee.

Liverpool's profligacy sparked criticism of Klopp's failure to buy a top-class striker and, irritated by questions about his trophyless two-year reign, he sarcastically labelled himself a "charismatic, amusing loser" earlier this week.

Maribor and Liverpool will play the reverse fixture on November 1, the next game of the group stage, at Anfield. They have also never kept a clean sheet in those eight games. In 7 games on the road this season, Liverpool scored 2 wins, with 3 draws and 2 losses.
