Injured Smith ruled out of India T20Is

India on Saturday defeated Australia by nine-wickets in rain-hit first T20 match of the three-match series at Ranchi's JSCA (Jharkhand State Cricket Association) Stadium Complex.

The star batsman - who has not played a T20 for his country since March 2016 - was in doubt after hurting his shoulder during the fifth and final one-day global against India last week.

He was only able to train for 20 minutes in the nets on Friday before he was forced to stop and Cricket Australia have now confirmed his tour has come to an end.

Smith hurt his right shoulder diving in the field during the fifth and final one-day global against India at Nagpur on Sunday, adding injury to the insult of a 4-1 series loss for the visitors. India added Shikhar Dhawan as Rohit Sharma's opening partner in the playing XI.

India won the toss and chose to bowl first with skipper Virat Kohli citing the weather factor as the reason behind it. In ODI series, team India simply destroyed Australia completely though Aussie are not whitewashed but lost four matches out of five. Tim Paine will keep wicket, while left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff makes his global debut for Australia. He followed it up with a nonchalantly flicked six over long leg off Nathan Coulter-Nile, but the bowler swung one past a flick next ball and clattered his stumps.

The teams now move on to Guwahati for the second match on Tuesday, with the series finale taking place at Hyderabad on October 13.

This was after Kuldeep dismissed Aaron Finch (42) and Moises Henriques (8) off successive overs.

The visitors were rocked in the very first over of their innings when Warner chopped on a Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivery onto his stumps.

In the three ODIs, they opened the batting and put on first-wicket stands of 70, 231 and 66.

Glenn Maxwell will be desperate to find some form ahead of the Ashes after a poor run in one-day cricket led to him being dropped for the final two matches. "I'd expect that they would probably open".
