Get lost mom and dad! Amazon lets teens shop on their own”

Despite it being not unreasonable, it's understandable that not every person can afford it. Students are typically among that category, but Amazon has announced new pricing for college kids.

Teens between the ages of 13 and 17 can now create unique logins, linked to a household account, and place orders through the Amazon App to be approved by mom or dad.

The online retail giant said Wednesday that teens can now shop on Amazon on their own, if their parents let them.

On the other end of the spectrum, the move could be seen as an effort to indoctrinate teens and get them addicted to Amazon early, before they become loyal to a competitor. Teens may also access certain Prime benefits if their parents are a Prime member. Though many college students may come from households that share a Prime Membership, the option for a reduced-price Prime Student membership could be an attractive one for students living on their own. The parent will need to setup the shipping address and payment method, after which point an invitation is sent back to the teen. Then, parents can approve the order by text. Teens can also optionally attach a note, like "this is the book I need for class", Amazon says. The For Teens login is only made possible if the parent agrees, and parents ultimately retain the power over their teen's shopping habits, including settings spending limits and having the ability to deny an order. "We've listened to families and have built a great experience for both teens and parents", Michael Carr, vice president of Amazon Households, said in a statement.

The new monthly program totals about $65 a year, but Amazon doesn't require a yearlong commitment.
