Gareth Bale doubtful for Real Madrid and Wales with calf injury

Gareth Bale doubtful for Real Madrid and Wales with calf injuryā€¯

With Ronaldo misfiring, it was up to Isco to take a grip of things for Real Madrid against Espanyol.

Keylor Navas came to Real's rescue after 51 minutes as he produced a fine save to deny Navarro from equalising.

Real Madrid may have won two successive Champions Leagues and the La Liga title last season, but their league form this campaign has been very poor. They do have a home win in the Champions League and in the Spanish Super Cup, but that lack of home success in the league is holding Madrid well down the table, in a position that's left fans and players alike agitated and unsatisfied. The playmaker has become of the most important players at the Santiago Bernabeu over the past few months and that was on display this evening.

Speculation over Ronaldo's future at Madrid will not affect the club top goal scorer's performances, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has said.

The Spain worldwide was the star of the show and netted either side of half-time, but again Real looked to be lacking their usual bite, even with talisman Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting lineup for the third straight league game.

Espanyol - Pau 8, Lopez 6, Aaron 6, Gerard 5, Jurado 5, Baptistao 4, Lopez 6, Fuego 5, Roca 5, Hermoso 7, Sanchez 5, Dardar 7.

Gareth Bale is not in the Real Madrid squad list.

Defenders: Vallejo, Ramos, Varane, Nacho, Achraf and Tejero. The Portuguese superstar picked the ball up 30 yards from goal and played a clinical through ball for Isco, who cleverly prodded past Lopez before he had a chance to set himself. That would have been a remarkable development.

71' GOAL! Real Madrid 2-0 Espanyol: Darder loses the ball in the middle of the pitch, with Asensio cutting back a pass to Isco just inside the box. He has been involved in 72.62% of the total minutes played this season but if this injury is not dealt with properly, it could mean he misses more time.

The worldwide break may be seen as well-timed for Real in that regard, giving Zidane a fortnight to reassess their start to the campaign ahead of their trip to Getafe on October 14.
