Fallen soldier's widow: 'Nothing to say' to Trump after condolence call

Fallen soldier's widow: 'Nothing to say' to Trump after condolence call”

President Trump early Monday disputed the account of his phone call with a Gold star widow, who provided a description of the call earlier that morning in an interview. "I need to see him so I will know that that is my husband", she said.

President Donald Trump on Monday said he had a "very respectful" phone conversation with the widow of a recently fallen USA soldier after the soldier's widow said he failed to remember her husband's name in the condolence call.

The dispute has continued through the weekend with Trump tweeting: "I hope the Fake News Media keeps talking about Wacky Congresswoman Wilson in that she, as a representative, is killing the Democrat Party!"

Myeshia Johnson, who was married to Army Sgt. "He couldn't remember m husband's name", Johnson told host George Stephanopoulos.

Johnson was one of four US military personnel killed in Niger earlier this month in an ambush. The family member who raised Johnson called Wilson's account of the call "very accurate", and the White House has not refuted that Trump spoke those words.

The row between Wilson and Trump began October 17 when the Miami-area Democrat said Trump told Myeshia Johnson in a phone call that her husband "knew what he signed up for" and didn't appear to know his name, a version later backed up by Johnson's aunt.

Last week, Trump called the Gold Star widow while she was in a auto, and she asked that the conversation be put on a speaker phone. "I was very angry at the tone of his voice and how he said it".

"What she said was 100% correct", Myeshia Johnson said. I'm getting sick and exhausted of this so-called politician using my husband as a political platform.

Trump's broadside came a day after the White House defended Chief of Staff John F. Kelly after he mischaracterized Wilson's remarks at a 2015 Federal Bureau of Investigation building dedication and called her an "empty barrel" making noise.

She says she's gotten no answers from the government about how or where her husband died and says they refused to let her view his body. I don't know what's in that box. Johnson said she wants the world to know "how great of a soldier my husband was". "I don't know anything". A Trump spokeswoman said it was "inappropriate" to question Kelly in light of his stature as a retired four-star general. "And that's what hurt me the most, because if my husband is out here fighting for our country and he risked his life for our country", she said.
