Trump Keeps Talking About a 'Hospitalized' Senator That Doesn't Exist”

As for the hospitalization, Trump appears to be referring to Thad Cochran from MS, who is in his home state recovering from a urological issue but not hospitalized. While the MS senator is recovering from a urological issue, he is "recuperating" at home.

President Trump insists health care reform isn't dead. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) is in the hospital, even though Cochran himself has reportedly clarified that "I'm not hospitalized".

"It's going to cover a lot of territory and a lot of people ‒ millions of people", the president said, before boarding Marine One for Indiana. "But as you know, it ends on Friday".

Speaking to reporters before departing Washington, DC, for Indiana, Trump repeated many times that one senator was "in the hospital" when explaining why a vote on healthcare legislation would have to wait. "This narrative is driven by Trump himself, and it resonates with primary voters who believe the Republican Congress "isn't doing enough" [as we frequently heard in focus groups] to advance the president's agenda". A loss of two votes means that the bill passes after Mike Pence breaks the tie.

Trump said the health care bill, which was blocked by Democrats with the help of some Republicans, has "so many great features..."

Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) joined John McCain (R-Arizona) and Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) in opposing the bill Monday. He said the authors of the most recent Obamacare repeal bill, Senators Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy, hoped to increase support for their proposal.

He said he will "probably" sign the order by next week, allowing people to buy insurance across state lines. "He was there for me two times before", presumably referring to Paul's votes in favor of the "skinny repeal" and "partial repeal" amendments during the previous Obamacare repeal effort in July.

"We haven't given up on changing the American health care system".

Republicans in Congress, who this week failed to secure enough votes to vote on a renewed push to overhaul the health care law commonly known as Obamacare, said they would turn their attention to taxes, a common priority for the conservative party.

President Donald Trump speaks as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan listen during a meeting with House and Senate leaders at the White House on June 6.
