Trump Discusses Qatar With Saudi King”

In the past, Qatari pilgrims have travelled to Mecca and Medina, crossing the width of Saudi Arabia, in officially-sanctioned groups.

President Donald Trump is urging the countries embroiled in a regional dispute with Qatar to find a diplomatic resolution.

The International Monetary Fund said Wednesday that transportation and food costs in Qatar have "edged up" due to a diplomatic rift that led four Arab countries to cut ties with the small Gulf state. Qatar denies the accusations and has refused to meet the quartet's conditions for normalisation of relations.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said, "Such a crisis is not needed in our region, we have enough problems and enough conflict". Qatar's foreign minister said Arab states enforcing a blockade of Qatar have shown no signs of being open to negotiations, "Armenpress" reports, citing FARS news agency.

At present, Kuwait and the USA are attempting to heal the rift between Qatar one one side and Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt on the other.

Trump's siding with Saudis became more apparent on June 8, when the White House said he had talked to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, asking him to help "prevent the financing of terrorist organizations and stop the promotion of extremist ideology".

Trump told King Salman that a diplomatic resolution would fulfill a commitment - made when Trump visited Riyadh - to maintain unity while fighting "terrorism".

King Salman praised the resilience of the communities affected by Hurricane Harvey and offered his condolences to the families who have lost loved ones in the flood.
