Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Ist Test

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Ist Test”

Sri Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne led his team's recovery with a solid half-century on the opening day of the first Test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Pakistan handed a Test cap to batsman Haris Sohail for the first time before Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first.

Pakistan are playing their first Test since the retirement of their record run-scorer Younis Khan, and their most successful captain Misbah-ul-Haq.

Dinesh Chandimal (60) and Niroshan Dickwella (42) were not out at stumps, playing out almost 21 overs together.

Except for India due to political reasons, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, nearly all high-profile teams have had their turn facing Pakistan in Tests and in limited over games here in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah with Pakistan more or less being dominant against them.

It was Karunaratne's knock that brought Sri Lanka back into it in the last two sessions.

But with a seventh Test century seeming inevitable, Karunaratne set off for a single when on 93 only for Chandimal to stay in his crease.

Veteran legspinner Yasir Shah took 2-18 for Pakistan - Kusal Mendis was caught behind for 10 and Lahiru Thirimanne went leg before wicket for a duck.
