Megyn Kelly shows a softer side on 'Megyn Kelly Today' debut

Megyn Kelly shows a softer side on 'Megyn Kelly Today' debut”

The former Fox News Channel anchor was in the thick of it during the 2016 presidential campaign, most notably when then-candidate Donald Trump turned on her following her sharp questioning of him in a debate.

For the past few weeks, NBC's promotional campaign has touted the Megyn Kelly Today host as a "unifying force" in a time of social and political divisiveness. Here's a look back at some.

"Megan Kelly Today" premiered Monday morning - and it appears the program is just as rocky her previous one.

"If my producers and I do our jobs, you'll find out what you need to know today to get yourself through the day to have a laugh with us, a smile, sometimes a tear and maybe a little hope".

"NBC's Megyn Kelly experiment unveils its latest creation, a morning-show Bride of Frankenstein", tweeted the Washington Post.

Megyn Kelly ended her interview by grabbing Metz's forearm and gently saying, "It's been a pleasure". Before that, she was a Fox News darling whose TV show pulled in monster ratings, easily clobbering her competition at CNN and MSNBC.

Watch the opening moments of the first episode of "Megyn Kelly Today" below, via NBC. But in an interview with the cast and creators of NBC's own "Will & Grace", Kelly never established a relaxing rapport with them.

But Kelly's is a unique move, one from a more partisan-skewing outlet, enduring an uncommon the level of scrutiny.

It remains to be seen whether Kelly will attract a big audience in the competitive morning TV landscape - especially as she goes up against ABC's Live with Kelly and Ryan, which hit a three-month high in September by averaging 3 million viewers.

The actress spilled the tea after a commenter on Instagram asked, "Why did you guys do the Megyn Kelly show?"

The issues with her hosting just escalated until she finally said she was pretty much done with politics this year despite the fact that she interviewed controversial show host Alex Jones and even Russian president Vladimir Putin. The show made for a particularly awkward transition after two hours of relatively hard news on Today's flagship broadcast.

This whole thing just feels like trying to take an NBA All-Star center and, in middle age, turn them into a Kentucky Derby winning jockey.
