Frankfurt 2017: Volkswagen debuts refreshed ID Crozz II concept”

The German auto giant laid out the enormity of the task ahead, vowing to spend €20 billion ($24 billion) by 2030 to roll out the cars and earmarked another €50 billion to buy the batteries needed to power the vehicles.

The world's largest carmaker, Volkswagen, has pledged to electrify its entire range of cars by 2030. The company has already showcased the I.D, I.D Buzz concepts previously and in the ongoing 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show it unveiled its I.D Crozz electric SUV concept.

The company's so-called I.D. electric model has been created to compete with Tesla Inc.'s least expensive vehicle, the new Model 3 sedan, which is available with a price tag of $35,000.

Resplendent in new Hibiscus Red Metallic paint, and highlighted by five-spoke 21-inch alloy wheels, the I.D. Crozz II is more refined than the first concept shown at the Shanghai motor show in April. They are also working on developing autonomous vehicles that could drive themselves - under limited circumstances such as corporate campuses or limited access freeways at first, and possibly more widely later.

Volkswagen Brand board of management chairman Dr Herbert Diess said the company would invest in electric mobility "to make modern technology available to many people".

"We want to make Volkswagen the world's number one when it comes to electromobility by 2025". The front doors will open conventionally and the rear doors will slide. Fuel cell-powered cars are not yet a practical option for consumers, with only 33 hydrogen fuel stations in Germany, but it's one possibility for the future in which government regulation will increasingly require low-emission vehicles. Output is rated at 225kW, capable of propelling the concept up to a top speed of 180km/h.

China, the world's largest auto market, announced this week that it intends to ban the production and sale of vehicles powered only by fossil fuels.

The high-performance battery can be charged to 80 per cent of its energy capacity in 30 minutes using a fast-charging system.

The T-Roc is the first major launch in a brand offensive that will see Volkswagen renew its model range over the next three years.

VOLKSWAGEN has revealed an updated version of its I.D.
