Tropical Storm Watch issued for NC, SC coasts”

Another wave of low pressure is LIKELY to develop into a tropical storm late tonight or early Monday.

Tropical storm watches have been issued from roughly 90 miles north of Beaufort County at the South Santee River to Duck, North Carolina, and also for Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds.

The Hurricane Center may initiate advisories for the potential development of a tropical cyclone off the Southeast coast as early as this afternoon, DiGiorgi said in a release. These are trying to organize into a tropical system, but haven't been able to just yet. A southward dip in the jet stream across the eastern United States would be responsible for sending this system northeastward.

This system is NOT expected to majorly strengthen, but monitor the latest forecasts closely!

The hurricane center expected the system to merge with a cold front in the next few days.

"The main impacts for the beaches will be heavy rainfall, which will add up to 3" to 6". System exits the area by Wednesday morning. That would result in gusty northeast winds, high surf, rip currents and possible coastal flooding from Georgia to the mid-Atlantic.

Monday night, the system will be moving along the coast of SC, moving northward off the North Carolina coast by Tuesday morning.

Closer to home, there is a broad low pressure stretching across north-central Florida producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

The heaviest rains Sunday were expected in the Naples area, Baxter said.

The forecast says that the system will move slowly toward the SC coast Sunday night and Monday.
