Space station astronaut sees solar eclipse shadow on Earth”

Meanwhile, the astronauts on the space station got a unique view of the eclipse of their own.

Kutryk believes people are living at a time when humans will potentially return to the moon and that he hopes to travel there.

In a stunning photo tweeted by the ISS crew, what looks like a pesky speck of dust is actually the silhouette of the orbiting laboratory during one of its three revolutions around the sun.

As millions of Americans watched the moon pass across the surface of the sun Monday, the International Space Station couldn't help stealing part of the show.

The portion of the eclipse in which the moon totally obscures the sun only lasts about two minutes. If you see the eclipse, it means you're in the path of the moon's shadow as it crosses the planet.

Viewing the eclipse from orbit were NASA's Randy Bresnik, Jack Fischer and Peggy Whitson, ESA (European Space Agency's) Paolo Nespoli, and Roscosmos' Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin and Sergey Ryazanskiy.

A total solar eclipse is seen on Monday, August 21, 2017 from onboard a NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center's Gulfstream III 25,000 feet above the OR coast.

The images were captured by NASA photographer Joel Kowsky, who was on the ground in Banner, Wyoming, to take the snapshots for the U.S. space organization.

While people gathered in the United States to witness a total solar eclipse that took place for the first time in 99 years, the International Space Station chose to make an appearance right when NASA photographer captured the historic moment on camera.
