Koh Dong-jin, head of Samsung's mobile division, unveils the Galaxy Note 8 in NY on Wednesday.

It will also have a dedicated "Bixby" voice assistant hardware button on the side as well an S-Pen, which marks its return on the Galaxy Note series.

The note shares that even though the Note 8 isn't a "revolutionary" device, it still represents a return to stiff competition in the premium smartphone market, particularly between Samsung and Apple.

Interestingly enough, Samsung still has the fingerprint scanner near the camera housing, but has opted to put the flash between the cameras and the scanner. It's 6.3 inches large, to be exact and boasts the company's QuadHD Super AMOLED resolution.

Samsung said the Note8 will be available in mid-September in midnight black, orchid gray, maple gold and deep sea blue.

Galaxy Note 8 will come with 64-bit Exynos 8895 octa-core processor in regions like India and other Asian countries.

The phone has got an update in terms of RAM, which is increased to 6 GB from its predecessor's 4GB. The handset will have 64GB of storage but this can be expanded with a microSD card.

The battery is surprisingly smaller than even the S8+'s 3500mAh - just 3300mAh.

The Galaxy Note 8 is slated to begin shipping globally starting mid-September. Samsung also apologized to users regarding the a year ago scandal and expressed their gratitude to Note fans for still trusting them. The display is 0.1 inches bigger than the S8+ as well as the largest Note device ever made. The camera app on the Galaxy Note 8 also includes new features like Live Focus and Dual Capture mode.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 weighs 198g including the S Pen and measures 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6mm.

And yes, Samsung says that this year's version will not blow up. And yes, the phone is IP68 certified. The in-house virtual assistance, Bixby is available on all the three smartphones, but it is not yet ideal stay perform on par with Google Assistant or Apple's Siri.
