New Ferrari Portofino revealed as California T replacement

New Ferrari Portofino revealed as California T replacement”

But its styling is significantly less aggressive than Ferrari's other cars, indicating that it's the entry-level vehicle in the Italian firm's lineup.

The Ferrari Portofino's 3,855cc twin turbo V8 engine produces 592bhp at 7,500rpm and 760Nm of peak torque from 3,000 - 5,250rpm, which is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.

Prices or availability have not been released; the Ferrari Portofino will officially debut in Frankfurt next month.

According to Ferrari, the Portofino is good for a 0-62 miles per hour run of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of more than 199 miles per hour.

The Ferrari Portofino with an 8-cylinder engine will replace the California T. The auto will make its debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September, the company said.

The retractable hard top is interesting because when up it's a two-box fastback as opposed to a more usual three-box coupé design. A third-generation electronic rear differential - which Ferrari has dubbed E-Diff3 - has been added, integrated with the F1-Trac system, while it's also the first of Ferrari's GT's to get electric power steering.

The Ferrari Portofino replaces the California T model, and is kitted out with everything its predecessor boasted but in sleeker, swankier form. The acme of Italian riviera cool, home to the Hotel Splendido, the road into this formerly sleepy fishing village narrows perilously the closer into port you get, but this is still exactly the sort of place you'd dream of rocking up in a Ferrari convertible. While the Prancing Horse hasn't mentioned the exact weight loss, we've been told that the carmaker has come up with new production techniques that boost torsional rigidity, a key area for a convertible. It's a Ferrari with a very specific objective, capturing conquest buyers new to the brand - and a higher proportion of women than for its sports cars. The new front end treatment and air intakes are created to improve the Portofino's overall aerodynamic efficiency. The Portofio retains the California T's slight rear-weight bias, at 46:54 front to rear. Oh, and it's fast: 0-62mph will take just 3.5 seconds, slightly up on the California T which used a 552bhp version of this engine. That's not the case for the Ferrari Portofino.

The cabin has also been treated to upgrades, with Ferrari adding a new 10.2-inch touchscreen display, as well an air conditioning system created to improve comfort with the roof in place or folded away.

New interior features for the occupants include a 10.2-inch touchscreen, new air-conditioning system, new steering wheel, 18-way adjustable seats, and a new deflector that cuts wind buffeting in the cabin by 30 percent.
