Coutinho Left Out Of Liverpool's Travelling Squad For Hoffenheim Clash

Coutinho Left Out Of Liverpool's Travelling Squad For Hoffenheim Clash”

Liverpool, who depart for Germany on Monday afternoon ahead of the first leg, are hoping to book their place in the Champions League group stage for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Article 42.07 of UEFA's regulations states: "As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for more than one club in the course of the same season".

Klopp remained quiet on the issue of Coutinho's future when quizzed on the matter following Saturday's stalemate at Vicarage Road. "I've said everything I will say about it".

And he replied: "I really understand that everyone is thinking about this, but I cannot say I am thinking about this in this moment".

"Everyone would want Phil to stay because he's a world-class player".

Klopp - who is very keen to keep Coutinho at the club - has previously said that the matter is now out of his hands, with the club's owners deciding the Brazilian's fate now.

"I'm here and I'll answer questions".

After drawing with Watford, he explained: 'As manager in a football club I have bosses, and if bosses decide, for example, just in general, we sell a player or we don't sell him - then I have to accept it.

"He's my team-mate and I'm close to him, I've got a lot of respect for him, but at the end of the day everything that happens has got nothing to do with me". Whatever I say probably won't help the situation. There's no chance it isn't going to happen again. "We have a good team".

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this summer. It's not like it happened to us previous year and now we say "this will not happen any more".
