All Blacks crush Wallabies in Rugby Championship opener

All Blacks crush Wallabies in Rugby Championship opener”

Australia legend Michael Lynagh ripped into the current Wallabies side after it was humiliated in the opening 40 minutes of its Rugby Championship clash with New Zealand on Saturday.

What distraction? The All Blacks have shrugged off so called distractions during the week to put in a near ideal first half performance to hold a commanding 40-6 lead over Australia at halftime in Sydney tonight.

Rieko Ioane, who is just 20 years old, and Ryan Crotty each scored two tries for NZ while Liam Squire, Sonny Bill Williams, Damian McKenzie and Ben Smith went over to complete the rout.

The Wallabies' pride demanded they grab a foothold somewhere, and they came back with tries to winger Curtis Rona on debut, centers Tevita Kuridrani and Kurtley Beale, who was playing his first test since the 2015 Rugby World Cup, and fullback Israel Folau.

The visitors' summer exertions against the British and Irish Lions perhaps caught up with them in the second period and Australia cashed in, scoring 28 points, but New Zealand ran out comfortable 54-34 winners.

The Wallabies take on the All Blacks next Saturday in Dunedin.

The scandals have rocked New Zealand rugby to the core, with their previously immaculate reputation in tatters with suggestions there was a culture of bad behaviour within the squad.

"You can't fault that first half".

"It's not the start we'd hoped for in this series and in particular this game", Hooper said. We were OK in patches of the second half but we conceded 34 points which means most days of the week you're going to be losing test matches.

From then on, however, it was one-way traffic in the first half with quick hands down the line sending Squire over in the 10th minute and the three-try burst from the 18th minute silencing what noise was coming from the home supporters.

McKenzie was again instrumental in Ioane's first try, leaving the winger in an easy one-on-one with Folau.

"Michael Hooper there seemed pretty content with the second half and that we scored a few tries".

Looking to dispel some of the gloom hanging over the Australian game, the Wallabies put together some sharp phases with their first possession and were rewarded with flyhalf Bernard Foley's penalty in the third minute.

The All Blacks might have surpassed 60 points with a late try to Beauden Barrett but the score was overruled by the television official.
