Saudi Arabia Demands Capitulation as Qatar Deadline Looms

Saudi Arabia Demands Capitulation as Qatar Deadline Looms”

On Monday morning it was announced that Riyadh and its allies extended by 48 hours the deadline for Qatar to accept their list of demands.

Qatar has been granted an extra 48 hours to respond to a list of demands issued by Arab nations created to end a diplomatic crisis roiling the Gulf, including a request that Qatar-based news network Al Jazeera be shut down.

On June 22 they presented a list of 13 demands and gave Doha 10 days to comply.

"The message is about the reply which was prepared earlier by the State of Qatar on the list of collective demands submitted by the State of Kuwait at the end of last month", QNA added.

They accuse the wealthy little emirate gas to support "terrorism" and criticize him its ties with Iran, a rival regional of saudi Arabia.

President Donald Trump "addressed his concerns" Sunday night about the ongoing diplomatic dispute between Qatar and four of its neighbors in phone calls with some of the involved leaders, calling for unity but emphasizing that his top concern is ending funding for terrorism.

Al Thani also said Qatar was "willing to engage in providing the proper condition for further dialogue", but his Saudi counterpart said the demands were non-negotiable.

Meanwhile, foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain are scheduled to meet in Cairo Wednesday to discuss the Qatari crisis, an Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Monday.

United Kingdom foreign secretary Boris Johnson welcomed Qatar's response and that the four Arab countries had agreed to Kuwait's request for more time.

Qatar, shunned by Gulf neighbours over its support to terror, may have to face more action as the deadline for meeting their demands expired on Sunday.

"He reiterated the importance of stopping terrorist financing and discrediting extremist ideology".

The four states stated that if Qatar does not comply with the demands, the crisis with Doha will continue and they will impose additional sanctions.

The terms drew sharp criticism from Qatar with government communications director Sheikh Saif bin Ahmad Al-Thani saying that the blockade is not aimed at fighting terrorism but at impinging on Qatar's sovereignty and interfering in its foreign policy. "The four anti-Qatar states have only hinted at how they will respond if their ultimatum is spurned", says The Guardian.
