Grassley to send Trump Jr. letter asking him to testify”

Grassley, R-Iowa, previewed his intentions Wednesday when he told reporters that he wanted former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to testify before the committee as early as next week, following revelations related to Trump Jr.'s email exchange about meeting with a Russian lawyer regarding potentially damaging information against Hillary Clinton.

That came in response to Sen.

The president's eldest son released on Tuesday an e-mail chain in which he was told that a Russian lawyer with whom he set up a meeting had damaging information concerning Hillary Clinton obtained as part of the Russian government's effort to elect his father president.

Trump Jr. said Tuesday he would be "happy" to work with a Senate Intelligence Committee now investigating alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election after he himself acknowledged meeting a Kremlin-linked lawyer during his father's campaign.

Grassley noted he intends to question Manafort on the Foreign Agent Registration Act, including on his role in the meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in June 2016.

But Trump also refused to dispute an assertion made by Russian President Vladimir Putin that Trump believed him when he said that Russia hadn't meddle in the election during their lengthy meeting in Germany last week.

Donald Trump Jr. sits down to a round-table discussion at the Talk Media News radio row in Manchester, N.H., February 8, 2016.

CNN also reported that the senators didn't shy away from making a subpoena threat to get Donald Trump Jr in the chair. He also said that he didn't fault his son for attending.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is one of several congressional committees investigating Russian meddling in the US election.

Trump Jr. told Fox News' Sean Hannity Tuesday night that he would be willing to testify under oath about the meeting, which he said yielded no useful information and instead focused on adoptions.

Manafort disclosed the meeting in a package of information he provided to the Senate and House intelligence committees, who have been investigating potential coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, as is Robert Mueller, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director appointed by the Justice Department as the special counsel.

In a different part of the article, The New York Times states that three people claimed email of Robert Glodstone, a music publicist representing Russian pop star Emin Agalarov, indicated the Russian government as the source of the information offered to Donald Trump Jr.

"I just think that he would welcome the opportunity to say everything he wants to say", Grassley told CNN.
