Clashes as IOK marks key anniversaryā€¯

The security forces and intelligence agencies are apprehending trouble in the Kashmir Valley on Wani's death anniversary. Police patrolling was stepped up in various parts of summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, to maintain law and order and thwart any untoward incidents. Curfew was imposed in Tral, Wani's home town in Pulwama district.

Authorities were on alert as separatists and militants called for week-long protests from July 7 to 13 with the next shutdown call on July 13 to commemorate what they called "State Martyr's Day".

Authorities Saturday clamped curfew in three towns and imposed severe restrictions in the rest of Kashmir to foil the protest rally called by separatist leadership to mark the first death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani.

Clashes broke out between protesters and government forces in apple town Sopore of North Kashmir's Baramulla district.

Burhan Wani along with two associates was killed by the Indian troops in a fake encounter in Kokernag area of Islamabad district on July 8 past year.

Shelling by Pakistani forces claimed the lives of two civilians on India's side of the frontier and wounded two others, the Indian army's defense spokesman said.

Analysts say New Delhi's failure to engage in a political dialogue in the region is fanning the anti-India sentiment.

A number of restrictions have also been imposed on the movement of people, according to PTI.

His death had led to a surge in protests in the Valley. I would have made him understand that a bridge of friendship between pakistan, Kashmir and India can be built and he could also be useful in that.

"If service providers find it hard to block the social media sites, then they should shut down their services in Kashmir from 10 pm on Thursday till further orders", an order issued by Khan to different Internet service providers read. Mobile internet services are also likely to be suspended.

"Burhan Wani is the start of a new chapter in Kashmir's struggle for freedom", said the prime minister.

Protestors clashed with security personnel in Tral, the hometown of militant commander Burhan Wani, on his first death anniversary.

Meanwhile, on Friday, on the request of the Indian government, the Birmingham City Council recently refused several UK-based Kashmiri groups to organize a rally paying homage to Wani.
