U.K. Police Rebuke U.S. for Leaking Information on Terror Probe

U.K. Police Rebuke U.S. for Leaking Information on Terror Probeā€

"These searches are connected to Monday's attack on the Manchester Arena, but this is a fast moving investigation and we are keeping an open mind at this stage", police said in a statement.

Authorities believe he had help in building the bomb, which photographs published by the New York Times showed was sophisticated and powerful, and that his accomplices could be ready to strike again. The Times story followed several USA news reports disclosing information British police and intelligence officials had chosen to withhold from the press.

"It's very clear that this is a network that we are investigating".

"When that trust is breached it undermines these relationships, and undermines our investigations and the confidence of victims, witnesses and their families", it added. "This damage is even greater when it involves unauthorized disclosure of potential evidence in the middle of a major counter terrorism investigation".

British authorities were exploring whether the bomber, who grew up in Manchester, had links with other cells across Europe and North Africa, according to two officials familiar with the case who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the ongoing investigation.

This has made the total number of suspects linked to the attack rise to seven so far.

Ministers and Whitehall officials have been tearing their hair out over leaks to the United States media of information from the British investigation into the attack.

He told the New York Times: 'Yes, a friend of his was killed by the gangs of Manchester, but that doesn't mean that he carried out an attack for it'. The deployment, created to free up police officers to pursue the terrorists behind the attack, is the largest on the British mainland in decades.

In Libya, Abedi's brother - identified as 20-year-old Hashim Ramadan Abu Qassem al-Abedi - was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of links to ISIS, according to a statement from a Tripoli militia known as the Special Deterrence Force.

On Wednesday, a series of raids were executed across Manchester, Wigan and Nuneaton, Warwickshire, while relatives of bomber Salman Abedi were detained in Libya.

Ramadan Abedi, the father of Salman Abedi, the bomber who killed 22 concert-goers in an attack in Manchester, gestures as he speaks to Reuters. A woman who was arrested earlier was released without charge, police said. He ordered Salman and Hashem to move to Libya a few weeks ago - an order which the young men complied with, but apparently failed to stop them from carrying out the Manchester attack.

On Monday morning, May had been on the defensive, denying that she'd reversed one of her flagship policies on care for the elderly.

Many at the concert were young girls and teens enthralled by Grande's pop power. Campaigning will resume on Friday. The U.K. Independence Party, whose manifesto launch was delayed amid the suspension, will unveil its program on Thursday.

The papers said he had told his parents that he was going to go on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, but actually returned to England and carried out his attack.

Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said police family liaison officers had alerted families of the victims to the publication of leaked intelligence. An initial deployment of 984 had been ordered, first in London and then elsewhere.

Canceled shows include two performances at the O2 Arena in London (May 25-26), a concert at the Sportspaleis in Belgium (May 28), two shows at Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland (May 31-June 1), and concerts at Festhale in Frankfurt, Germany (June 3) and Hallenstadion in Zurich, Switzerland (June 5).
