The Many Reasons Behind ABC's 'Last Man Standing' Cancellation

The Many Reasons Behind ABC's 'Last Man Standing' Cancellation”

It was announced last week that ABC will be canceling Tim Allen's latest sitcom Last Man Standing, and now, a petition circulating online is calling for a boycott of the network in hopes of the show's renewal.

"Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years", Allen tweeted.

To achieve that, ABC set its long-running fairy-tale series Once Upon a Time at 8 p.m. Friday, followed by Marvel's Inhumans, a superhero spin-off, and then once Inhumans finishes its run, the network will run Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in its place. Allen's character, Mike Baxter, is vocally conservative, a trait that viewers say may have gotten the show canceled. But talk about the liberal network, owned by Disney, is still revolving around the backlash against the controversial cancellation of their hit show Last Man Standing. Once ABC made the decision not to stay with comedies on Friday, "that's where we landed", she said.

ABC insists canceling "Last Man Standing" had nothing to do with Tim Allen's support of President Trump.

This petition for Last Man Standing now sits at over 110k strong, with each signature serving as a request that the show not be canceled.

[.] The intent of this petition/boycott is to attempt to get ABC to renew the show.

Allen himself has been an outspoken conservative, and during a March appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Ultimately, Dungey stressed that Allen's political affiliation - he has compared being conservative to "1930s Germany" - did not play a role in the decision to ax the comedy. He emphasized on air that "you gotta be real careful around here" because "you'll get beat up if you don't believe what everybody believes". "Last Man Standing" ranked No. 48 in viewership among broadcast shows this season, with an average of 5.89 million viewers, the Nielsen Co. said.

"I have cancelled the DVR settings for the other ABC shows that I regularly watch", they wrote.

Hopes that ABC may change its mind have likely been bolstered by shocking turn of events surrounding Timeless, with NBC cancelling the Vancouver-shot time-travel drama and then reversing its decision the following morning, a move that took even cast and producers by surprise.
