PCB bans cricketer Mohammad Nawaz for two months”

Left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz has been handed a two-month suspension by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after admitting to an anti-corruption charge. He was issued a demand notice and asked to appear before the board's Vigilance and Security Department.

Sharjeel Khan's counsel told the Anti-corruption Tribunal that his client had timely informed the relevant authority of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about his meeting with a person, who was later recognised as a bookie by the Board.

The PCB, in its verdict, said that a "period of ineligibility/suspension of two months has been imposed on Nawaz (first month suspension commenced from May 16), one month of which will be suspended upon fulfilment of additional conditions", the board said in a statement.

The 23-year-old has confessed to the country's Anti-Corruption Unit that he had delayed in reporting approach by bookies when Pakistan toured Australia earlier this year. If any such breach (es) take place, the board shall reserve the right to initiate separate and independent proceedings against Nawaz under the PCB Code.

The cases pertain to corruption in the Twenty20 Pakistan Super League (PSL) held in United Arab Emirates in February to March this year. Six others are either facing charges of corruption, or have been banned, or were questioned by the PCB.

Four other players are now under investigation and have been provisionally suspended - Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Nasir Jamshed and Shahzaib Hasan could face bans ranging from five years to lifetime if found guilty.

That Nawaz would have to pay the PCB a fine of Rs 200,000.
